The City of Pataskala is excited to announce that the long awaited construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase II improvements is scheduled to begin on December 1, 2010. In early November, the City awarded a contract to Kirk Brothers Construction for this project. The project is scheduled to be completed no later than December 1, 2011.

 

This project is being done to address the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) conerns regarding the plant's performance relative to the City's pollution discharge permit. As a result, the City is proactively addressing these concerns to avoid future deficiences at the plant that could occur if these improvements were not made. It is anticipated that these improvements will help the City meet its service requirements for the forseeable future.

 

The project will include larger aerobic digesters, new pumps and piping, adding a new aerator, additional blowers to correct oxygen problems, modifications to prevent overflows, adding screens to protect plant equipment, flow meters, security lighting, new sludge storage building, permanent building for the rotary press, upgrading plant computer monitoring systems, and paving of the driveway into the plant.

 

While at times this project will generate significant construction traffic in the Bright Waters subdivision, please know that the contractor will be held to the highest standard possible regarding the speed of vehicles, avoiding mud on the streets, limiting dust from the construction site, and in general having as little impact on the residents as is possible. The City will monitor this project very closely to minimize its impact.
