The Planning Director’s responsibilities include Comprehensive Land Planning; review of all zoning documents and applications for the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council; preparing the departmental budget; and overseeing all construction site development with City Inspectors. The Director meets with residents, developers and small businesses to explore and compare the development opportunities, issues and restrictions presented by various sites.
The Zoning Inspector is responsible enforcement of the Zoning Code; reviewing applications for permits of zoning compliance prior to construction of all structures and signs; conducting inspections for zoning compliance after construction and prior to occupancy of all residential, commercial, and industrial properties. As time permits, the Zoning Inspector will also provide enforcement of Codified Ordinances related to property; tracking violation activities and tracking violations through a resolution process.
Due to budget cutbacks the City no longer has staff dedicated solely to Code Enforcement. We apologize for anticipated delays in response to complaints.
The Zoning Clerk keeps the records and minutes related to all Planning and Zoning Commission Meetings and Board of Zoning Appeals Meetings, prepares and distributes meeting packets and publishes public hearing notices as well as mailing neighboring property notices; she distributes and accepts various zoning and permit applications, accepts payments of fees, assists with meeting scheduling and other miscellaneous zoning department tasks.
Each member of the department is available by phone or by appointment to explain the requirements of the Zoning Code and assist the applicant with strategies for complying with those requirements.
