The City has formed a Drug and Alcohol Task Force under the leadership of Wendy Williams of the Licking County Community Mental Health and Recovery Board and various other elected officials from Western Licking County. Agencies that are participating in the Task Force include the Pataskala Police Department, Licking County Sheriff's Office, Ohio Highway Patrol, various Mayor's and County Courts, West Licking Ministerial Association Licking Heights School District, Southwest Licking School District, and various drug and alcohol agencies.
The Task Force is developing procedures to eradicate the use of drugs and alcohol and their impact on Western Licking County. This is a grassroots effort that utilizes local resources and focuses on the effects these issues have on adults and youth offenders and the impact they have on the quality of life for all residents. Based on the Task Force recommendations, Pataskala has purchased, through private donations, a drug detecting dog and is assisting the Ohio State Highway Patrol on acquiring a local drug patrol dog. The Task Force is educating residents on how to provide information and tips about suspicious activity and developing procedures to reduce drug and alcohol offenses.
